HBX 2010 has begun! Here are a few photos from Thursday and Friday evening parties, courtesy of our official photographer Mr. Esa Kuivanen.

Winter Wonderland

It has been really cold and snowy lately in Finland, with temperatures dropping down to -37 °C in Northern Finland and -20 °C in Helsinki. Luckily, it's about to get a bit warmer this week, but they expect the temperature to stay below zero for quite a while. So it's a good idea to use the winter clearance sale season to find robust snowproof boots and warm outerwear for your trip!

The photo on the right was taken on January 10 on the street leading to the English School in Helsinki where the Friday party takes place.

The January newsletter was just sent out to all registered participants, with detailed information on private lessons, the Saturday sauna and ice swimming option, as well as the Saturday dinner - to all of which you need to pre-register by January 13. 100th registration arrived on Monday!

Congrats to Kerstin Sihlberg from Stockholm, the 100th person to register for Helsinki Balboa Exchange 2010!

The event is filling up fast - some of our venues only have capacity for 150 dancers, so it's possible that there won't be any door tickets. Make sure you and your friends get in by registering no later than December 18 (and get the cheaper Early Bird price)!

October update - we're getting truly international!

January is just around the corner and we have some great news about the event.

Dancers from at least 8 countries

The initial interest about HBX has taken us by surprise. Registrations are pouring in from all directions even though some of the details are still wide open. It's great to know that so many dancers want to come to Helsinki.

It looks like HBX could be the most international swing dance event ever held in Finland. We have already received registrations from Finland, Germany, Sweden, Russia, France, Denmark, Switzerland, and even from the USA! So register now and make sure you don't miss the fun!

Busy times in the back office

During the past few weeks we've been concentrating on paperwork - setting up an organization, filling in documents and opening a bank account. Now we can send payment instructions by e-mail to those who have registered.

Meanwhile, we have been busy checking out the best possible venues and bands for the parties. We can't announce the details yet, but look forward to some awesome parties! More information will be posted on the website regularly in the coming months.

What would you like to experience in Helsinki - besides dancing Balboa all night long... a sightseeing tour, genuine Finnish sauna, ice skating, winter swimming, or eating traditional Finnish food such as sautéed reindeer or Carelian pies? Finnish and international teachers have agreed to give private lessons during the weekend. Details will be published soon.

More tips for budget travelers:
- Compare flight prices for most other airlines on websites such as Skyscanner, Ebookers, Supersaver or TerminalA.
- If you don't mind an indirect flight with a stop in Riga, Air Baltic often has some good offers.
- If you don't mind a 4-hour ferry trip across the Gulf of Finland, you can fly to Tallinn instead of Helsinki.
- With Ryanair you can fly to Tampere, but currently there is no bus transport from the Tampere airport to Helsinki.
